Born in 1951 in Jakarta, Krijono became interested in art through his father, who was an avid collector of Indonesian paintings.
In 1970, Krijono became an auditor at the Art Academy of Indonesia and within a year held his first solo exhibition of batik works. A few years later, he came to Japan to study Japanese textile art.
After holding a number of batik exhibitions in Europe, he returned home to Jakarta and for a time dropped out of the art world. He returned in 1982 with his first solo painting show featuring works depicting women.
Since the collapse of the Suharto regime in 1998, the people of Indonesia have won greater freedom, but many problems remain.
