Chan Kwok Hung (Gary Chan) is a Hong Kong based, self taught travel
photographer. He acquired his first DSLR camera in 2006 and began exploring
photography by shooting landscape and cityscapes. He soon realized that his
subjects were similar to mainstream photography enthusiasts so he decided to
seek unconventional and exceptional subjects by travelling to less developed
countries.
Driven by his own quest of
artistic vision and passion, he has embarked on his extensive journeys to less
developed countries such as Myanmar, Nepal, Eygpt, Cambodia and connected with
exotic and indigenous cultures to ignite his enthusiasm for photography. He is
inspired by the genuine welcome of the local people who have cultivated true
and sincere friendships with him. Chan aspires to use his lens to reveal
people's profound humanity, such as smiles, laughter and tears. He uses
photography as his creative expression to engage worldwide viewers’ interest
and celebrate the cultures and people he visits.
Since 2007, Chan has received
multiple awards and has become an internationally recognized photographer. His
captivating images have won him many prestigious awards such as National
Geographic winner, Sony world photography award, Canon Creative Asia Award.
Additionally, Chan has been invited as a guest lecturer to various photography
awards and festivals. And in 2012, Chan becomes the Sony HK sponor
photographer.
Chan is dedicated to fine art
photography and tirelessly travels to capture images for his new work. His
vision is to share his work to wider audience and write a new legacy as a Hong
Kong photographer on the world stage.
