A vent'anni dalla caduta del muro di Berlino, un gruppo di amanti dell'arte ne ha ricostruito una copia nel centro della capitale tedesca per dare alla gente la possibilità di lasciare un pensiero artistico sulla barriera che fu il simbolo della Guerra Fredda.
L'associazione Artitude ha allineato 20 sezioni del Muro in quella che era No Man's Land, spingendo abitanti, turisti e artisti a dipingerci disegni e graffiti.
"Il progetto si discosta dal concetto convenzionale di monumento", spiega Konstantin Lom, manager del progetto "Write the Wall". "Punta a trasformare la storia nel presente attraverso il processo artistico".
Una macchina fotografica che inquadra il muro scatta ogni minuto una fotografia, che poi viene pubblicata su Internet.
"Qui sono venuti nonni e bambini a disegnare slogan sul muro", spiega Lutz Henke, curatore del progetto.
Come succedeva all'originale, costruito nel 1961 dalla Germania dell'Est come "barriera protettiva anti-fascista", solo il lato occidentale può essere dipinto. Quello orientale rimarrà vuoto.

Write the Wall – live action
The art installation in the public space consists of three entangled parts:
1. A wall, consisting of 20 wall segments from the Berlin Wall.
2. A camera, which takes every minute a shot of the wall
3. An interface, which is accessible locally or via the Internet.
The interesting fact behind this installation is, that only one side is free for painting – As in the divided Berlin only the west side of the wall is directly accessible. Hence there will be a counterpart to the famous “East Side-Gallery”, the “West Side Gallery”!
