Pittore statunitense (Shelbyville 1855 - Hanover 1941). Studiò a Parigi presso J.-L. Gérôme; ritornato in America, dipinse dapprima quadri di soggetto indiano: in seguito quasi esclusivamente "quadri di famiglia", figure di madri e bambini, che una lieve stilizzazione intende rivestire di significati simbolici.
